Lumen listens to a live service, so it has to be plain about what it hears and what it keeps. This page explains that in the order it happens.
What Lumen collects
A Lumen account holds the details you give it: your name, email address and church. When you run a service, the app stores the service record — its title, speaker, date, edition, the references recognised, and the verse text that was shown. If you summarise a service, that summary is stored with the record. If you send us a message through the contact form, we keep your name, email, church and the message itself.
What happens to the sermon audio
Listening is controlled by you: the microphone is only active while a service is being listened to, and it stops when you end the service. Where your browser offers speech recognition, the spoken words are converted to text by the browser itself. Otherwise short audio segments are sent to our transcription service to be turned into text, then discarded — audio is not retained. Transcript excerpts are held in the browser for the session and are only stored if you choose to save the service.
Saved scripture and services
Saved verses, saved sermons and service records belong to the account that created them. They are readable only by that account and by the app's administrators, and you can delete any of them from the Saved and Services pages at any time.
Cookies and analytics
Lumen keeps you signed in with the session token your account issues, and stores a few small preferences — such as your chosen edition and text size — in your browser. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not sell or rent personal data to anyone.
Third-party services
Scripture text is fetched from a public Bible API; the reference and edition are sent, never your account details or your recording. Summaries are produced by a language-model service that receives only the transcript excerpt and verse you ask it to summarise.
Your choices
You can delete saved items at any time, ask for your account and its records to be removed, or request a copy of what is held about you by writing through the contact page. We keep service records until you delete them, and contact messages only as long as needed to answer them and keep a record of the conversation.
Questions about any of this, or a request to remove your records? Write to us through the contact page.
